A Word from Monique
I live in a little village in our beautiful Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg. I have been painting since my childhood. During my studies in primary school, and later in high school, my teachers always encouraged me to paint and praised my paintings. But I never had the desire to go to university to study art. I always wanted to keep my art work as a hobby! So, I studied civil engineering instead of art. Therefore, I consider myself a self-taught artist.
In 1979, I started to paint with oil colors. In 1985, I had my first group exposition in Colmar Berg.
Since then and up to today, I have been participating regularly in group exhibitions in galleries in Luxembourg but also in France (Paris, Thionville, Audun-le-Tiche) and Germany (Losheim am See).
I participated in several international competitions and got bronze and gold medals, and also participated in public outdoor painting events.
In 1996, I had an individual exhibition together with my husband Guy Michel Scholtes in a gallery in Schouweiler, near Luxembourg-City. My second individual exhibition was in a well-known restaurant in front of the Palais of Luxembourg-City. The Luxembourg magazine named “Career” published an article on my art work.
My paintings are mostly in acrylic on canvas, but I also use oil colors and aquarelle. I also paint on fabric, wood, leather, paper, and stone, and my subjects are landscapes, flowers, cars, animals, and people.
A Word from Guy
I have been drawing and painting since childhood. At primary school I always had to decorate one of the blackboards with seasonal themes (spring, Easter, autumn, St. Nicholas, Christmas…).
Since 1974, I began reading more intensively art literature and made my first steps in oil painting.
My first official exposition was in 1978 in Colmar-Berg. Since then, I participated at numerous individual and collective expositions all over the country, for example gallery of Luxembourg Cercle, art galleries in Steinsel and
Walferdange, Schauwebuerg Bertrange, Niederanven, Kehlen.
In the early ‘80s, I also created and painted the sceneries for theater.
In 1990, I participated at a public outdoor painting festival and took fourth place in public voting. Followingthis, I participated at several similar events in Luxembourg.
The first individual exposition was in November 1996 together with my wife Monique Bintz in the Gallery De Lorenzi in Schouweiler.
I also participated at international expositions as in Thionville, Losheim andAudun-le-Ticheand had the opportunity to participate at international art competitions, winning a bronze medal in Paris.
Important to say: I am a self-taught artist and I don’t want to be fixed on a precise style. I do acrylic, aquarelle and mixed-media paintings as well as lead pencil and charcoal drawings.
