In this month’s Genealogy Corner, we introduce one of the best resources for Luxembourg genealogical research: Luxroots genealogy and research database.

Luxroots, Luxembourg’s largest genealogical database with more than 800,000 birth, marriage and death records, is a non-profit organization with 80 volunteers who transcribe handwritten civil and parish records (including birth, marriage and death records) dating from 1600-1923. The scope of their research is all villages within the current (1839) borders of the Grand Duchy, as well as towns on the border region of Luxembourg, some of which were a part of the Duchy of Luxembourg until the final two historic partitions in1815 and 1839.

By becoming a Luxroots member, you gain access to their vast genealogical database. Members can find ancestors, create charts and access historical records as well as add information to your ancestor’s pedigree allowing you to earn points for contributions and to access other special features. Membership is very affordable and a must-have for anyone interested in researching their Luxembourgish ancestral roots. When you join Luxroots, please let them know that Luxembourg Legacy introduced you.

Georges Eicher, of Luxroots, Liliane Goniva and Kevin Wester (Liliane and Kevin are cousins).
