What should you do if a dual citizen family member passes away? We recently received this question and here is our recommendation:

• Next of kin should email the National Registry at registre.national@ctie.etat.lu.  

• In your email, include your name as well as the name of the deceased citizen and their birth date and death date. Tell them that this person was a Luxembourg dual citizen and is now deceased and their status can be changed on the National Registry. 

• Luxembourg has very strict privacy laws, so it would be imperative that you attach pdfs of your and the deceased’s U.S. passport (as proof of ID) and a pdf of the person’s death certificate.
