Help Us Document Stone Structures in the US

Luxembourg Legacy is undertaking the important labor of love of documenting all the Luxembourgish stone houses, barns, chapels and other buildings in the United States

There are numerous Luxembourgish stone houses and a few barns and chapels in St. Donatus, Iowa, and in Ozaukee and Sheboygan counties in Wisconsin. There are also Luxembourgish stone houses and structures in other parts of Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois and perhaps other states, and we’d love your help in documenting them. Our research findings will eventually be posted on our website.

The impetus behind this project is the destruction of yet another 19th century Luxembourgish house, the Meyers stone house near Port Washington, Wisconsin, which is being torn down to make way for construction of a large data center.

Since our social media post about this a few weeks ago, a few people have shared photos and information, including Sandy, from Princeton, Wisconsin, on the Grasher stone house near Dacada, Wisconsin; Diane, from Belgium, Wisconsin, on the Ellenbecker house there; and Charles and Ken on the Streff House in St. Donatus, Iowa.  Luxembourg Legacy is grateful to these individuals for supporting this important project.

Do you know of any Luxembourgish stones houses, barns or stone buildings in your area or your ancestral region? Did your ancestors have a stone house or barn in America? Do you have any historic or current photos or other documentation you would be willing to share with us? Even if a stone house is no longer standing, we are still interested in documenting it. In addition to photos and information about these stone houses and structures, we would also like to include photos of the immigrants who built them.

Send your Luxembourg stone structure info to us at info@luxembourglegacy.com.
