MIKE McQUAIDE
AN AMERICAN IN LUXEMBOURG
A unique and insightful take on Luxembourg culture
Luxembourg Legacy is proud to partner with Mike McQuaide – An American in Luxembourg.
An American in Luxembourg
Mike relocated from Bellingham, Washington, to Luxembourg in 2013 with his wife Jen and 14-year-old son Baker. Jen had secured a job in Luxembourg, but the family had no prior connection to the Grand Duchy. Initially, they planned to stay for only a year or so, but they found themselves so enamored with the Grand Duchy that they made the move permanent, becoming Luxembourg citizens in 2018.
Mike’s passion for the Grand Duchy is evident in his social media sites “An American in Luxembourg” and has written two books featuring his humorous take on life in Luxembourg. His first book, “An American in Luxembourg,” won the 2018 Lëtzebuerger Publikumspräis. His sequel, “An American Still in Luxembourg,” was published in 2023.
In 2025, Mike was chosen as one of nine parrains for the Grand Duke Guillaume’s Trounwiessel (accession to the throne). A parrain is a well-known public figure chosen to accompany the Grand-Ducal couple during Trounwiessel festivities.
Kevin says Mike has a take on life in Luxembourg that is uniquely American:
“As an ‘outsider’ who has become a citizen, Mike’s insights into the country’s culture are heartwarming, humorous and astute. I highly encourage you to follow him on social media and when you’re in Luxembourg, treat yourself to his two wonderful books.”
