“Luxembourg in America,” a film by Geoff Thompson
Sunday, March 15, 1 p.m. Central Time (U.S. and Canada
We’re proud to kick off our webinar series with a screening of the 2024 documentary film “Luxembourg in America,” written and directed by Geoff Thompson, who will join us live from Kleinbettingen, Luxembourg, to introduce the film and field questions.
Thompson, an Irish-born Luxembourger, owner/editor of G-Media in Luxembourg and editor of the online English-language newspaper chronicle.lu, has had a keen interest in Luxembourg immigration to America and Luxembourg–U.S. relations for many years. He shared the following about his 40-minute film:
“Tens of thousands of Luxembourgers left Europe in the late 19th century for the New World, many of them settling in and around Belgium, Wisconsin. The short documentary film portrays the current Luxembourgish community networks in and around Wisconsin through recording of live action and interviews during the 38th annual Luxembourg Fest. It also shares the history of the waves of emigration and the identity immigrants brought with them to America. Those elements come together to paint a picture of the bonds that tie the community together and link them to the modern-day Grand Duchy.”
Filmmaker Geoff Thompson will be on hand to answer questions
