First settlers arrived in 1835, calling their settlement "Wisconsin City" before renaming it "Port Washington" in honor of President George Washington.
Beginning in the 1840s, immigrant farmers from Luxembourg settled in Northern Ozaukee County and formed several rural communities, including Belgium.
Dacada was settled in the 1840s and 1850s. The name is derived from "Dakota".
A post office called Lake Church was established in 1894; it closed in 1907. The community took its name from St. Mary's of the Lake Church
Holy Cross, like nearby Dacada, was settled by immigrants from Luxembourg in the 1840s and 1850s.
